About Bologne

Bologne is a rhum agricole distillery at Basse-Terre on Guadeloupe, one of the oldest sugar estates on the island, known for using black cane in some of its rums.

Country
France (Guadeloupe)
Region
Guadeloupe

Domaine de Bologne lies on the slopes near the town of Basse-Terre, at the foot of the La Soufrière volcano in Guadeloupe. The estate has grown sugar cane for centuries and is counted among the oldest rum-making properties in the French Caribbean.

Bologne makes rhum agricole, distilled from fresh sugar cane juice rather than molasses, from cane grown on its own land. It is particularly associated with black cane, a dark-skinned variety that gives its name to the Rhum Black Cane in the range.

The unaged white rums form a large part of the line-up, including the Rhum Blanc Premium Limited Edition 2019, a full-strength white at 55% and the Ice Rhum. Aged rums follow the French classification, with Rhum Gold, the VSOP Rhum Vieux Agricole and the XO Rhum Vieux Agricole spending increasing time in oak.

For whisky drinkers, the aged VSOP and XO are the natural starting point, while the whites show the grassy, fresh character of cane-juice spirit at its most direct.
