Bacardi was founded in 1862 in Santiago de Cuba by Facundo Bacardí Massó, and the bat on the label dates from those early days. After the Cuban revolution the company left Cuba, and its main rum production is now in Cataño, Puerto Rico. The company, Bacardi Limited, is still privately owned by the founding family's descendants.
Bacardi makes rum, not whisky, so it sits on WhiskyGuru as a neighbour rather than a whisky producer. Its house style is light, filtered rum, made for mixing, alongside older aged expressions meant for sipping.
The ranges buyers meet include the white Carta Blanca and the darker Carta Negra, the aged Anejo Cuatro, Reserva Ocho and Gran Reserva Diez, and the older Grand Reserva Especial 16 Years Old. There are also flavoured rums such as Limon, Coconut, Razz and Caribbean Spiced.
