Rampur single malt is made by Radico Khaitan at its distillery in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, in northern India near the foothills of the Himalayas. The distillery has a long history in Indian spirits, and the single malt was launched internationally in the 2010s.
The malt is distilled in pot stills and matured in a climate with hot summers, cool winters and a monsoon season. This makes casks work quickly, so the whisky gains colour and flavour faster than it would in Scotland, with a large share lost to evaporation.
The core is the Single Malt Whisky and Vintage Select Casks, with releases like Asava and Barrel Blush showing different cask finishes. The Jugalbandi series pairs the malt with specific casks, such as Jugalbandi #3 Port Cask and #6 Madeira Wine Cask. Single cask bottlings such as the Rampur 2015 Bourbon Single Cask turn up as market exclusives, and Sangam is a world blended whisky.
