Clonakilty

Clonakilty Distillery is in the market town of Clonakilty on the coast of West Cork, in the south of Ireland. It was set up by the Scully family, who farm nearby on the Atlantic coast. Despite the Islands label in some listings, it is a Cork distillery.

The brand started with whiskey sourced from other Irish distilleries, finished and bottled by Clonakilty, before its own stills were running. The older bottlings, such as the 13 and 15 year old single casks, come from that sourced stock. The distillery's own spirit includes single pot still whiskey, the traditional Irish style made from malted and unmalted barley.

The ranges a buyer meets are built around finishes. These include the Double Oak Finish and Port Cask Finish blends, the Galley Head Single Malt named after the local headland, and the Clonakilty Single Pot Still. There are also single casks finished in Moscatel, sherry, Madeira and Bordeaux casks, and in casks from Dutch breweries such as De Hemel and Kees.
