Annandale stands near the town of Annan in Dumfriesshire, in the south west of Scotland. The distillery first operated in the 19th century and later passed to Johnnie Walker before closing in the early 20th century. Its old buildings stood silent for decades until a new owner restored them and restarted distilling in 2014.
The distillery makes two styles of spirit. Man O'Words is unpeated and named in honour of Robert Burns, who worked as an exciseman in the area. Man O'Sword is peated and refers to Robert the Bruce, whose family were Lords of Annandale.
The official bottlings you will meet are mostly vintage single casks, such as Man O'Sword Vintage 2015 from an Oloroso sherry butt, Man O'Sword Vintage 2016 from a bourbon cask, or the early Rare Vintage and Founder's Selection releases. Many of these are young whiskies bottled cask by cask, so each one is a little different.
Annandale also appears from independent bottlers, including Gordon & MacPhail, Cadenhead (for example a 10 Year Old 2015 in Cadenhead's Natural Strength series), Gleann Mór and Brave New Spirits. Our catalogue also lists blends such as Storyman and Nation of Scots that use its spirit.
