WhistlePig is based on a farm in Shoreham, Vermont, in the north-eastern United States. The brand built its name on rye whiskey at a time when aged rye was hard to find, and rye remains its focus.
The early, best-known bottlings such as the 10 Year Old were made from rye whiskey sourced in Canada, then bottled in Vermont. Over time WhistlePig began distilling on the farm, and the HomeStock and estate releases reflect that move towards grain grown and distilled at home.
The style is bold and spicy, as you would expect from a high-rye mash. The Old World 12 Year Old is finished in European wine casks, while the PiggyBack 6 Year Old is a younger, more affordable rye aimed at cocktails.
At the top of the range sits The Boss Hog, an annual limited edition with its own theme each year, such as The Samurai Scientist (2019) and Magellan's Atlantic (VII). These are older, stronger releases that collectors follow closely, alongside the 15 Year Old and occasional retailer exclusives.
