High Coast Distillery lies at Bjärtrå on the Ångerman River in northern Sweden, in the area known as the High Coast. It began distilling around 2010 under the name Box Destilleri, after the old Box sawmill on the site, and later took the name High Coast.
The distillery makes both unpeated and peated single malt. It is known for a clean, fruity house style, helped by careful fermentation and the use of very cold river water for condensing. Maturation in the northern Swedish climate, with its large seasonal swings, plays a big part in the character.
The core and limited ranges include Alv, Berg (such as the Pedro Ximénez version), Cinco and Sixty Three. The Quercus series explores different oak species, for example Quercus IV Mongolica, and the Silent Mills Collection pays tribute to old sawmills of the region, including Marieberg, Sandö, Svanö and Box.
Alongside official bottlings, single casks have appeared from independent bottlers such as Adelphi and Berry Bros. & Rudd.
