Journeyman Distillery was founded in 2010 by Bill Welter in Three Oaks, in the southwest corner of Michigan. It works from the old Warren Featherbone factory, which once made corset stays and buggy whips from turkey feathers. That history gives several of its whiskeys their names.
The distillery is known for using organic grains and for distilling its own spirit on site rather than bottling sourced whiskey. Its whiskeys are made and aged at the Three Oaks site, which also has a restaurant and is a popular stop for visitors.
The ranges a buyer meets are Featherbone Bourbon, the Last Feather Rye Whiskey, the Not A King Rye Whiskey, W. R. White, an unaged white whiskey, and Corsets, Whips and Whiskey, sold here in miniature size. These are young American craft whiskeys with a grain-forward character.
