Gouden Carolus

Gouden Carolus is best known as a beer brand of Het Anker, a historic brewery in Mechelen, Belgium. The brewery's owners, the Leclef family, set up a distillery called Stokerij De Molenberg on their family estate in Blaasveld, in the province of Antwerp, and the Gouden Carolus Single Malt is made there.

The whisky starts as a brewer's wash made from malted barley, essentially an unhopped version of a Gouden Carolus beer, which is then distilled in copper pot stills. This brewing background is a large part of the brand's identity.

The core single malt has been joined by many cask finishes and special editions. In our catalogue these include finishes in Port, Sherry, Palomino Oloroso, Pedro Ximenez and Madeira casks, anniversary bottlings such as the 10th Anniversary Aurora and 12th Anniversary Giverny, the Blaasveld Broek release, and a Discovery Box of miniatures.
