PUNI

PUNI stands in the Vinschgau valley in South Tyrol, in the far north of Italy, close to the Swiss and Austrian borders. It was founded by the Ebensperger family and began distilling in the early 2010s, which made it a pioneer of Italian malt whisky.

The distillery building is a striking brick cube that is easy to recognise from the road. Some of the whisky is matured in old military bunkers in the area, and the alpine climate, with big swings in temperature, plays a part in how the spirit ages.

The spirit is made from malted grains, and Italian wine casks are a big part of the style. Marsala casks in particular give many bottlings a dried fruit, nutty character.

The core and regular ranges include NOVA, ALBA, Sole, Gold and the Vina Marsala Edition, alongside age-stated releases such as the 4 Year Old and its Oloroso Cask Finish.

PUNI is also bottled by independent bottlers. Our catalogue lists single casks from That Boutique-y Whisky Company, Master of Malt and Keeble Cask Company, including PX finishes and casks sold under the Fragrant Drops label.
