Reservoir Distillery is a small craft distillery in Richmond, Virginia, set up in 2008. It distills and ages its own spirit rather than bottling sourced whiskey.
What sets it apart is the single-grain approach. Reservoir Bourbon is made from 100% corn, Reservoir Rye from 100% rye and Reservoir Wheat from 100% wheat, so each whiskey shows the character of one grain. The spirit has typically been aged in small barrels, which gives a lot of oak in a short time. The Bourbon Virginia Alligator Charred Quarter Cask bottling follows the same idea.
The distillery also experiments. The Mashup Series distills beer from local breweries, such as Ardent IPA and Hardywood Gingerbread Stout, into spirit drinks. Hunter & Scott is a separate bourbon line from the same producer.
Reservoir has also been bottled by an independent bottler: That Boutique-y Whisky Company released Batch #1 of its two-year-old bourbon, corn and wheat spirits. These are sold as spirit rather than whisky in Europe because of their age.
