1792 is a bourbon brand distilled and bottled at Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, which belongs to the Sazerac Company. The name refers to the year Kentucky became a state. The brand first appeared in the early 2000s as Ridgewood Reserve 1792, later 1792 Ridgemont Reserve, before settling on its current name.
The core bourbon uses a mash bill with a relatively high share of rye, which gives a spicier edge than many wheated or low-rye bourbons. It is aged in new charred oak barrels in Barton's warehouses.
The everyday bottle is 1792 Small Batch. Around it sit 1792 Single Barrel, the higher strength 1792 Full Proof, 1792 Bottled in Bond, an older 12 Year Old, and 1792 Sweet Wheat, which swaps the rye for wheat. Some of these are released in limited quantities each year, so prices can vary between shops.
