Glendalough was set up in 2011 by a group of friends from Dublin and Wicklow, taking its name from the glacial valley in the Wicklow Mountains. It began with poitín and whiskey, and its spirits are tied closely to the Wicklow landscape, including the use of local Irish oak.

Much of the older whiskey in the range was distilled elsewhere in Ireland and then matured, finished and bottled by Glendalough, as was common for new Irish brands in the 2010s. The house style leans on cask work: the Double Barrel single grain spends time in bourbon barrels and then oloroso sherry casks, and the Pot Still is finished in virgin Irish oak.

Buyers will meet the core Double Barrel and Pot Still Irish Oak Cask, aged single malts at 7, 13, 17 and 25 years, and finishes such as the 7 Year Old Porter Barrel and the Mizunara oak releases. There are also single cask releases finished in casks such as Madeira, Calvados XO and Grand Cru Burgundy.
