Braeval stands in the hills of the Braes of Glenlivet in Speyside. It was built in the 1970s by Seagram as Braes of Glenlivet and later renamed Braeval, partly to avoid confusion with The Glenlivet. Older bottles still carry the original name. The distillery belongs to Chivas Brothers, the Scotch whisky arm of Pernod Ricard.
It is a modern working distillery built for the company's blends, and there is no regular official single malt. Its spirit is generally light and fruity in the Speyside manner, and much of the character in a given bottle comes from the cask.
That makes Braeval mainly a name for independent bottlings. In our catalogue you will find it from Gordon & MacPhail's Connoisseurs Choice, Old Malt Cask, Hart Brothers, Murray McDavid Mission Gold, Lady of the Glen, Gleann Mor, Samaroli, Small Batch Bottlers and Uncharted Whisky Co. Ages range from around 10 years to more than 30, often from single casks.
