Hazelburn

Hazelburn is one of three single malts made at the Springbank distillery in Campbeltown, alongside Springbank and Longrow. It takes its name from the old Hazelburn distillery, once one of Campbeltown's largest, which closed in the 1920s. Springbank first distilled the new Hazelburn in 1997, and the first bottling was an 8 year old.

The spirit is made from unpeated barley malted on Springbank's own floors and distilled three times. This gives a lighter, smoother malt than its stablemates, with fruit and a creamy texture. Like other Springbank whiskies, it is matured, reduced and bottled on site in Campbeltown by the same family-owned company, J. & A. Mitchell.

The official range usually centres on a young age statement, often the 8 Year Old, with a Cask Strength version at times. It is joined by limited releases from particular casks, such as the Oloroso Cask, Cognac Cask and Barolo Cask Finish editions, and older bottlings like the 21 Year Old. Releases are small and sell quickly.

Hazelburn also appears from independent bottlers. These include Cadenhead's, a sister company within the Springbank group, the Scotch Malt Whisky Society under cask code 126, and Duncan Taylor.
