The Last Drop Distillers was set up in 2008 by a group of veteran drinks industry figures with a simple idea: to seek out remarkable, forgotten casks and old stocks and bottle them in small numbers. In 2016 the company became part of Sazerac, the American spirits group.
The Last Drop does not distill. It works as a bottler, sourcing mature whisky that is often decades old, sometimes already vatted, sometimes still in single casks. Some releases are given further time in cask before bottling, as with the Double-Matured 50 Year Old.
In whisky the ranges a buyer meets include old blends such as the 50 Year Old Blended Grain Scotch Whisky and the 56 Year Old Blended Scotch Whisky, single casks of Glenrothes from 1968, 1969 and 1970, and a 1977 grain whisky from the closed Dumbarton distillery. The company has also looked beyond Scotland, with a 20 Year Old Japanese Blended Malt and a Kentucky Straight Whiskey Signature Blend.
Releases are small, numbered and usually expensive, aimed at collectors and gift buyers looking for age and rarity.
