Glenmorangie

Glenmorangie is distilled at the Glenmorangie distillery near Tain, on the Dornoch Firth in the northern Highlands of Scotland. The distillery dates from 1843, and since 2004 the company has been part of Moët Hennessy, the drinks arm of LVMH. The whisky is distilled, matured and bottled by the Glenmorangie Company.

The distillery is famous for having the tallest stills in Scotland, with long, narrow necks that let only the lightest vapours reach the condenser. Together with hard, mineral-rich water from the Tarlogie Springs, this gives a delicate, floral and fruity spirit that ages mostly in American oak bourbon casks.

Glenmorangie helped popularise the practice of finishing whisky in a second cask. The Original, long sold as a 10 Year Old and now as 12 years, is the core bottling. Alongside it sit finished whiskies such as Nectar D'Or (Sauternes casks) and earlier Port Wood and Claret Wood finishes, plus an 18 Year Old. Signet is a richer, premium release that uses some chocolate malt.

The Private Edition is a yearly limited release exploring unusual grains, casks or techniques. Buyers will also meet Triple Cask Reserve, a travel retail bottling, Tale Of Spices, The Cadboll, and X, a whisky designed for mixing.
