Benrinnes

Benrinnes stands on the lower slopes of the hill of the same name, near Aberlour in Speyside. Distilling in the area goes back to the early nineteenth century, and today the distillery belongs to Diageo. Most of its output goes into the group's blends, so the name is better known to blenders and collectors than to casual drinkers.

The spirit is cooled in worm tubs, which leaves it heavy, oily and meaty rather than light and grassy. For many years Benrinnes also used an unusual partial triple distillation. Matured in sherry casks the whisky takes on a rich, savoury character, which is why it has a loyal following among fans of robust Speyside malt.

Official bottlings are scarce. Diageo has released it in the Flora & Fauna series and as occasional Special Releases. A buyer will more often meet it through independent bottlers, and our catalogue reflects that.

Signatory Vintage, Douglas Laing, Hunter Laing, Adelphi, James Eadie, That Boutique-y Whisky Company and Master of Malt all bottle it. You will find single casks, a 21 Year Old 1996 Signatory Cask Strength, an 18 Year Old 1995 Coopers Choice, a Cask Craft bottling from Murray McDavid and a 14 Year Old Pedro Ximénez Cask Finish, alongside various ages and vintages.
