Amrut Distilleries was founded in 1948 in what is now Bengaluru, in southern India, by the Jagdale family, who still run it. For decades it made spirits for the Indian market before launching its single malt, first in Glasgow in 2004, which helped put Indian whisky on the map.
The distillery sits at around 900 metres altitude in a warm climate, so the spirit matures quickly and a large share evaporates from the casks each year. Most Amrut whiskies are therefore young by Scottish standards, and an age of ten years, as in the Greedy Angels releases, is unusually old here. The style tends to be rich, fruity and full-bodied.
The core is the Single Malt and the Cask Strength. Fusion combines Indian barley with peated barley from Scotland. Beyond that Amrut is known for experiments: Spectrum uses casks built from several types of oak, Two Continents is matured partly in India and partly in Europe, Kumbha and Triparva play with blending and triple distillation, and there are sherry, rum and single bourbon cask bottlings.
Amrut is distilled and bottled at the distillery in Bengaluru and is mostly found as official bottlings.

About whiskies
Whisky (or whiskey) is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains are used including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, which gives it its distinctive color and complex flavor profile.
Each bottling represents a unique expression with specific characteristics like age, cask type, and alcohol strength.
