The Bitter Truth

The Bitter Truth was founded in Germany by two bartenders, Stephan Berg and Alexander Hauck, who set out to bring back classic cocktail bitters that had largely disappeared. The company is based in the Munich area.

It does not make whisky. Its products are concentrated bitters and liqueurs, used a few dashes at a time to season drinks. For whisky drinkers they are most useful in classic cocktails, where a good bitters can change the balance of an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan.

The range in our catalogue covers the Old Time Aromatic Bitters and Jerry Thomas Own Decanter Bitters, recreations in a historical style, along with flavoured bitters such as Chocolate, Celery, Creole, Grapefruit, Lemon, Olive and Cucumber. There is also Golden Falernum, a spiced liqueur, and a Traveler's Set tin of small bottles that makes an easy way to try several at once.
