Ballechin is the peated whisky of the Edradour distillery near Pitlochry in the Scottish Highlands. Edradour's owners, the independent bottler Signatory Vintage, started distilling it in 2003. The name comes from an old farm distillery in the area that closed in the 1920s.
The spirit is made from heavily peated malt in the same small-scale way as Edradour's unpeated whisky. The result is smoky and earthy, with the richness that wine casks often add. Ballechin is made by the distillery itself and is rarely seen from other bottlers.
The core bottling is the Ballechin 10 Year Old, which you may also see listed as 10 Years or 10Y. Beside it come many cask releases, such as aged Bordeaux, Burgundy and bourbon cask editions.
The Straight From The Cask series, often shortened to STFC, gives single casks bottled at cask strength with the cask number on the label. Because each cask is different, these vary in age, strength and flavour, and each one is limited.

About whiskies
Whisky (or whiskey) is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Various grains are used including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whisky is typically aged in wooden casks, which gives it its distinctive color and complex flavor profile.
Each bottling represents a unique expression with specific characteristics like age, cask type, and alcohol strength.
