About Captain Morgan

- Owner
- Diageo
Captain Morgan is a rum brand rather than a whisky, named after the 17th century Welsh privateer Henry Morgan. It was created by Seagram in the mid 20th century and is today owned by Diageo, which sells it around the world.
The brand is best known for spiced rum, a sweet, vanilla-led style meant mainly for mixing with cola or in cocktails. Much of the rum is produced in the Caribbean, including at a distillery on St Croix in the US Virgin Islands.
In our catalogue you will find Spiced Gold, the classic spiced rum, alongside Black, a darker and heavier style, White, an unaged-tasting light rum for mixing, and Private Stock, a richer premium blend. Tiki and the flavoured releases are lighter, fruit-led variations.
For whisky buyers, Captain Morgan is mainly of interest as an everyday mixing spirit. It is bottled at mainstream strengths and priced well below most single malts.
