Kopke makes Port, the fortified wine of Portugal's Douro valley, rather than whisky. The house was founded in 1638 by the Kopke family, merchants who settled in Porto, and it is generally regarded as the oldest of the Port shippers. It is now part of the Sogevinus group.
The house is best known for Colheita Port: tawny Port from a single harvest, aged in wooden casks for many years before bottling. Our catalogue lists vintages reaching back to 1957, along with more recent years and a Colheita White Port.
The wider range covers the main Port styles, from a Ruby and a Dry White Port to aged tawnies such as the 10 Years Old and 30 Years Old. Whisky drinkers often come to Kopke through the old Colheitas, whose nutty, dried-fruit character sits close to that of sherry-matured malts.
