Irish Distillers (Pernod Ricard)

Powers began with John Power & Son, whose distillery stood on John's Lane in Dublin. Its whiskey became one of Ireland's best-known names. After the Irish whiskey industry consolidated into Irish Distillers, production moved to the Midleton distillery in County Cork, and the Dublin site closed in the 1970s. The brand now belongs to Irish Distillers, part of Pernod Ricard.

Powers is known for a robust, spicy style built on single pot still whiskey, made from a mix of malted and unmalted barley and triple distilled in copper pot stills. Even the blended John Power Gold Label carries a high share of pot still whiskey.

The ranges a buyer meets include John Power Gold Label, the Signature Release, the Three Swallow Release and the John's Lane Release 12yo Single Pot Still. There is also a Powers Irish Rye, and occasional retailer exclusives such as a 17 year old small batch bottled for The Whisky Exchange.

Our catalogue also groups the Fercullen whiskeys here, including the 14yo single malt and the 18yo and 20yo Five Elements. Fercullen is a separate brand from Powerscourt Distillery in County Wicklow, which has no connection with Powers.
