Auchentoshan stands at Dalmuir, near Clydebank, on the western edge of Glasgow. It dates from the early nineteenth century and is one of the few working distilleries left in the Lowlands. Since 1994 it has been part of Morrison Bowmore, now owned by Suntory.
What sets Auchentoshan apart is that every drop is triple distilled, an old Lowland practice that is now rare in Scotland. The third distillation gives a high-strength, very light new make. The malt is unpeated, so the whisky tends toward citrus, vanilla, toasted bread and soft fruit.
The core range a buyer meets includes American Oak, matured in bourbon casks, the 12 Year Old and Three Wood, which passes through bourbon, oloroso and Pedro Ximénez casks. Other releases play with wood, such as Virgin Oak, Blood Oak and wine finishes like the Sauvignon Blanc Finish, alongside older aged bottlings.
Auchentoshan is also bottled regularly by independents. Our catalogue includes casks from Signatory Vintage, Douglas Laing's Old Malt Cask, Berry Bros. & Rudd, A.D. Rattray, Càrn Mòr, Asta Morris, Master of Malt and That Boutique-y Whisky Company, some of them old vintages from the 1960s and 1990s.
