About Warenghem

Warenghem is a family distillery in Lannion, Brittany, that makes Armorik, widely regarded as the first single malt whisky produced in France.

Country
France
Region
Brittany
Founded
1900

Warenghem was founded in 1900 in Lannion, on the north coast of Brittany, and began as a maker of liqueurs and cider spirits. In the late 1980s it turned to whisky, first with a blend and then with a single malt, making it one of the pioneers of French whisky.

Its single malt is sold as Armorik, after the old name for coastal Brittany. The spirit is distilled in pot stills and matured in a mild, damp maritime climate, often in a mix of bourbon and sherry casks, as well as casks of Breton oak. The style tends to be fruity and malty, with a soft coastal note.

The ranges a buyer meets include Armorik Classic, Double Maturation, Sherry Cask and the 10 Year Old Dervenn, along with vintage and single cask releases such as Maître de Chai 2010 and the Yeun Elez bottling. Most bottlings are official, but independent bottlers such as Master of Malt and Forgotten Gems have also released Warenghem whisky.
