About The Lost Distillery Company

Scottish company that recreates the style of long-closed Scotch whisky distilleries as blended malts, guided by archive research into how each distillery worked.

Country
Scotland

The Lost Distillery Company sets out to bring back the character of Scottish distilleries that closed and disappeared, some of them more than a century ago. It studies historical records of each site: its water, barley, peat, stills and the casks it likely used. From that research it builds a whisky meant to echo what the old distillery might have made.

These are not old stocks from the closed distilleries. Each bottle is a blended malt, put together from malt whiskies bought from working distilleries, which the company does not name. The names on the labels, such as Auchnagie, Gerston, Stratheden, Towiemore, Jericho, Lossit, Dalaruan and Aunachie, belong to the lost distilleries that inspired them.

Buyers will mostly meet the Classic Selection, the core range covering most of these names. Above it sit the Vintage bottlings, such as Auchnagie and Gerston Vintage, and the Archivist's Selection, seen here with Stratheden. They are a good way to explore Scotch whisky history, as long as you know you are drinking a modern interpretation rather than spirit from the original stills.
